Born in Vreren 19/01/1956
From 1972 on, at an early age, his creations already brought innovation to his parents company Maq-Pon.
A lot of these early designs are now, almost 40 years later, still on the market today.
In 1990 JM and his wife took over the family business Maq-Pon. The next years of research and development
would become very significant: in 1996 he developped his known lead collection for the garden.
This brand new collection was soon to be enhanced with fountains, garden illumination and all kinds of different ornaments.
The pewter collection too was reshaped and enhanced with new designs. Together these two collections would become the basis for a new trend.
In 1998 the collections got a lot of attention on a world scale. That year they were presented on the Parisian Expo 'Maison & Object' for the first time in collaboration with Rita Jordens.
It didn't take long for the collection to be appreciated in 50 countries where the designs were soon seen in a lot of prestigious projects.
Despite the world wide succes, JM has always kept a low profile. Instead of drawing attention to himself his time and energy went to the creation of new
designs that were presented in Paris every season.
The succes had a shadow side too; copycats tried to imitate several designs and distribute them illegaly.
The only sollution was to have the designs patented in the Benelux. Later on all the designs were patented world wide in New York.
After his son joined the company in 2000, even more time could be invested in creativity. That creativity would find its way to other markets too.
After a long and intensive preparation, JM and his collegue Frank Stinckens started a new business; Flemish Woodworks.
This company designs and realises massive wooden indoor and outdoor creations. Just like Maq-Pon, Flemish Woodworks focuses on authentic craftsmanship
and timeless designs.
Here too creativity would soon lead to a nice collection of wooden buildings and interiors appreciated by the professionals.
After a long collaboration with Rita Jordens, the distribution and trade mark 'Rita Jordens' was taken over by her son Gert Hannes.
Today all the creations of Maq-Pon are still distributed by 'Rita Jordens'.
Garden lighting in Belgium is distributed by Lumini.
All realisations of Flemish Woodworks are distributed by Flemish Woodworks.
The entire collection of Maq-Pon is stil produced in the workshop in Hoeselt by Maq-Pon NV. Every piece carries the signature of the designer.
The combination of craftmanship and and signature of the designer makes every piece into a 'piece unique'.
Not only the designs are important, the production too is realised according to the high standards of today.
Durable and renewable materials are transformed into timeless creations. Materials and designs that outlive us become the antique of the future.
